Who? The Cataracs and DEV

I’m loving The Cataracs and DEV. Very intoxicating!

Below a re-post, from Jack the Dog Musings of an American Mongrel

cataracs
The Cataracs are an American hip hop indie-pop duo formed in Berkeley, California, consisting of David “Campa” Benjamin Singer-Vine, a songwriter and vocalist and Niles “Cyrano” Hollowell-Dhar, a songwriter, vocalist, and producer.

The duo started out as an independent group, during their years at Berkeley High School. The two were first signed to the label Indie-Pop. They describe their music as “an everyday man’s take on pop music.

Cool, dry beats and neo-pyschedelic flows characterize this Berkeley group’s contribution to the burgeoning hyphy movement. Less raucous than Dem Hoodstarz but perfectly willing to sin, the Cataracs put another pushpin in the Bay Area map.

Amazon.com Something not cheap for me.

Dear Amazon.com,

Last month, I ordered 3 DVDs just for my shelf collection on August 29th, 2009 (GMT-8) from Amazon.com. It’s worth to buy 3 DVDs for the cost of US$29.96 in US dollars. But for me, I’ll be paying them in Brunei dollars which is about BND$43.076. So you won’t think its worth now if you understand the figure I have to pay for three DVDs. Yes, you can say O.M.G too. That’s not all, there’s an extra fees, which we like to call it “International Shipping & Handling fees” or cost.

  • Standard International Shipping (averages 18-32 days)

For 3 DVDs, on standard shipment (because its the cheapest) cost about US$16.96 or about BND$24.385. So roughly I’ll be charge on my MasterCard for a total of BND68-69 dollars. Talk about worth now? :S

amazon

The story of my Amazon is not over yet; when will I expect the delivery to reach me? Since my package was shipped on August 31st, 2009, my delivery estimate was stated between September 25th, 2009 – October 16th, 2009. Wow Alid are you sure it’s worth?

To answer all the “is this worth?” well for me it’s worthy. It’s not easy to get to see these films (movies). I can’t find it at our local (Brunei) stores and also I can’t find it on the internet, in search for download opportunity. So the last resource is to buy these DVDs online.

I know its beyond mentioning how expensive it is. Paying about BND$60+ for 3 DVDs! Well I do have other option, which is to buy it from eBay. But unfortunately my new MasterCard is not yet linked with my PayPal account. Since I was very desperate to get the DVDs, I have no option to wait for PayPal. It would be much cheaper thou buying things at eBay compare buying at Amazon.com.

More things about Amazon.com, a) shipment to Brunei is not always available, especially the items are sold by 3rd party. So make sure your items that you wanted to buy is sold by Amazon, or else sometime (usually) the items can’t be shipped to Brunei’s addresses. Sigh. b) And always check your tracking shipment at your account. It will update you, and now my estimate delivery is on October 9th, 2009.

PS: This is what happen if your a big TV Series (Drama) and a Film (Movie) Fan! And I buy Region 1 DVDs only!

Laura Ling, Euna Lee Return Home To U.S.

laura ling euna lee return home

American journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling arrive back to their families after being released by North Korean authorities yesterday.

“Thirty hours ago,” Laura said at a California airplane hangar. “Euna Lee and I were prisoners in North Korea. We feared that at any moment we would end up in a hard-labor camp. Then we were told that we were going to a meeting. We were taken to a location, and when we walked thought the doors, we saw standing before us President Bill Clinton. We were shocked, but we knew that the nightmare of our lives would soon be over.”

Laura and Euna, of San Francisco based Current TV, were both arrested by North Korea in March for illegally entering the country on the Chinese border and in June, were sentenced to 12 years in prison. Yesterday, they were pardoned by President Kim Jong-Il after a meeting with former President Bill Clinton.
