Early Childhood Education and Counselling foster teaching in Lower Primary

This video is old (posted in 2009) but it still help to live up my passion, when i suddenly feel lost. My interest in ECE begin while assigned to teach two Pre-School classes during my teaching practice. Well, technically I was inspired by the two of the ECE cooperative teachers. I see the different teaching styles use, and i was very curious about it. It was challenging to teach Malay phonic (literacy) coz I was more comfortable by English and it was the 1st year that they introduced Malay phonic officially (SPN21). Through observation and practical, I think i did well for a starter. Its hard (teaching about 50 pre school kids a day), but the cuteness of these little children help to overcome it. Both ECE teachers had help me a lot. Because of its excitement, I can be found at the preschool class most during my free periods.

Management, caring and fun are the keys. The same year, I helped to organise a reading room “Sehati Membaca”, and a community outreach workshop on Malay Phonic; attended by parents and the community from Belimbing and Subok Village. I worked with the best of the best of ECE expert. She is now currently the leader of ECE in Brunei Education. Am I lucky and proud? Heaven yes. Through these experience, I find my love to teach Lower Primary especially on reading. I still have respect on ECE and Counseling in my profession. Sometime you touch a student’s life through academic; but sometime its the love, caring, social intact and the good rapport with them that means a lot. Trust me, as for my own experience, being not so excellent in Chemistry subject, does not mean i can’t appreciate and love my Chemistry teachers. They are the great and always at heart.

I wish I could take this course in the future, for the great understanding of teaching children in Lower Primary. FYI, NAEYC, define ECD from 0-8 years Old. ECE psychology, care and pedagogy does not limit benefit for ONLY in Preschool. Continuous care and handling by ECE methodology is encourage towards the age of 8. However differential and increases of learning styles through age (development stage) should be expected. 1 of my interest is using ECE understanding and ICT tools for developing Critical thinking – Lower Primary learners; specifically on teaching Literacy (Reading).

Reflection of few days of holiday.

I’m actually forcing myself to write something at this hour. I have no interest to sleep now. Tomorrow, I begin my work as a teacher after few days of school break. And now I’m thinking to reflect back what I had done during my vacation.

It was a beautiful engagement day for my sister Hartini (on Friday, 10th June 2011). The past few days was hectic, we did family team work and collaboration  in organizing our house in Subok Village; to make it clean and possible for our visitors to come in. Technically it was smooth, and I am very happy how the event turn out to be =)

On the 9th June 2011, which was on Thursday; I participated at the GreenSTEPS initiatives seminars and workshop. 1st of all, the foods were great. 2nd the guest speaker Mr. Mark Cheng, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Avelife Foundation of Singapore delivered a very inspiring speech. And this was coming from a guy at an age of 23 (same as me).

The best part of that day is, during the afternoon workshop. I got a chance to vain myself in front of 39 participants. Well actually, I was just delivering some notes by my group and I, in which we have collaborated to produce some justifying answers during the discussions. What I really like about it, was during my presentation, everyone seems to enjoy it, and I heard a lot of  laugh amongst the participants and they clap their hands after I have end my speech. Well, Thank You. I really feel honored. I mean, let me do it again! :P As you can see from the photo above, all the five fine ladies are laughing and seems to enjoy it.

I also spend my time with my best bud, HD. As usual, the men conversation, dinner and movies. The 1st movie was not my kind of taste. Malay movies are hardly appreciated by my brain, no offense, but I do have some Malay movies which are good!

I watched Super 8, and I find it awesome. I’m a fan of JJ Abrams for his work on Star Trek  (2009, which helps Chris Pine career to blossom) and the TV series Fringe. I also watched X-men: First Class and The Green Lantern. For both, it is OK. I mean its good, but not that great like Star Trek :P

Smurf

Speaking of movies, I can’t wait to watch The Smurf Movie! The smurfs are so cute and Neil Patrick Harris from How I Met Your Mother TV Series is in it! so it gotta be awesome!

Sing+Hiap+Hin+Brunei

I also spend my holiday by doing some mechanics shopping – spare parts for my brother.. kinda good to learn few things about cars at Sing Hiap Hin Keng Hwa Auto Co. , Gadong.

Oh+Land+Album+Brunei

My Ohland – Ohland Album arrived (from Amazon.com) at my parents house during my vacation. And I really love it very much! And I want to meet you Ohland and the drummer Hans Hvidberg-Hansen.

The+Last+Song+Nicholas+Sparks+Movie

And just now, I finished watching The Last Song. Two things I want to say:

1) Dear Miley Cyrus, Please I beg you, don’t ruin your life, like Ms. Lindsay Lohan or Ms. Britney Spears did. Your acting, your singing vocal and music are awesome! And I love you for who you are, even though a stranger love does not meant anything for you.. hehe (too exaggerate?)

2) Dear Nicholas Sparks,  I’m in love with your writing. And for my 24th birthday this 17th December; I wish to own all your novels including Wokini and the soon to be release”The Best of Me”.

I think that is all for a quick update :)

My Eldest Sister and Harry Potter Seires.

I’m mesmerizing on how I started to be involved in Harry Potter world. Well this wouldn’t light up if the new Harry Potter movie (Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince) will be in cinema tomorrow. I have to say thankx to my eldest sister, Hartini for bringing us in the world of HP.

It started when we first moved in to our new house, late 2001 [PS:  I was just about to turn 14 in December] (well pretty much the house is old, the house was built years earlier)at Subok Village. The house was not yet furnished with our extravaganza entertainment tools, coz it was still  in boxed at our old house at Berakas Camp (Yes my dad was a solider and we lived in a luxurious home at Berakas Camp (a Free Soldier’s Housing area; hehe). So I recall, our first few days was extremely boring.. We have nothing to do besides: eat drink and be on bed and waited for Hari Raya to come.

One night, like a holy night on Christmas Eve, our Hartini encourage us to watch a movie with her. Common, who can’t resist that offer? Its was the only thing that can free us for a moment for being in the ‘bored mood’. Even my brother is watching with us. I remember the settings, all the siblings were there, the lights were out, the sofa was all facing the TV in our small corridor hall, and probably our parents was already sleeping. Yeah they were not watching it with us.

The Movie (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone) was in two cds, Yes we were still on VCDs haha. But it was worth it. The movie was great. I was still 13, and I have fallen in love with Emma Watson. She’s so pretty; so much the girl I would want to marry when I get old enough, well prior to that time, haha.

From there, we started to collect and buy all the Harry Potter series books , Hmm.. Hartini and I are the one reading it. My other siblings wouldn’t care that much, because of their other set of interest.

For closure, I would like to say Thank You to my sister and of coz J.K Rowling for her awesome gifts to the world for sharing that much innovative, interesting fantasy novels; since I was young to where I’m standing right now, I’m still following the HP series.

Now I leave you with (Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince) Official Trailers:
